Diana,

If you ever figure out how to bottle & sell a day like that, sign me up for a case.

Sounds like your magnolia leaves are about like my empress tree leaves. I swear I could make shoes out of them. When they drop in the fall, it’s like the sidewalk is paved with leather.

I’m guessing the weather picture has changed in the last couple of days. No chance of the ocean making it to your bit of the state, right? I’m sure the wind and rain will be treacherous enough. Just wondering if we should worry, and send some karmic mojo your way.

Diana,

I’m guessing that by the time you read this your reports have experienced their first full day of working for you and the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

I wonder if anyone has remarked yet about the new Chief that blew into town.

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist that one. Hope you and all your people weather the storm safely.)

We never even lost power, Jeff. Had only about 5 minutes of semi-strong wing and a day of rain. All is well. :)

It rained steadily through the night and into the morning here, but the sky is starting to brighten now. No wind to speak of. By the time the Gulf storms make it this far north, they hardly even count as tropical depressions. They’re more like tropical blues.

It occurs to me that if Diana’s base has been spared the worst of the damage they might be sending personnel to help the stricken areas.

People have been volunteering to go help and asking if they can take up collections, etc. So far, nothing. I imagine the ANG, Coast Guard and local law enforcement are doing the initial response stuff. They’ll probably invite us when they find dry ground again. Who knows?

I am glad to hear that all is well in your part of Alabama.

While I dislike the label “our tsunami” that the media pins on this, I can see an argument for some of the parallels to the destruction. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem that there’ll be the body count of the tsnumai disaster earlier this year.

It’s good to have warnings and the means to heed them.

Just caught up on the last month of your blog, even went back through some of the old stuff. Had to get a second laugh at the Dojo critiques. I’m in Qatar again - for all it’s importance. Sounds like things are well with you, congrats on everything (my, aren’t you the busy girl?) Me? Retiring… Looking for another dojo - gotta do something. You get affected by Katrina?

Retiring? No kidding! You have been doing well in my absence, sounds like.

We got little or thing from Katrina, weather-wise. A few squall lines and lots of limbs to pick up in the yard, mostly. Nothing more.

In work-related stuff, I certainly did get affected. I’m about to do a post on my week last week, though, so I’ll leave details to whatever comes out when I start typing it.

You never told me what you’re doing in Qatar. Maybe it’s classified…?

Oh…married yet, old pal? :D
