Speak more than 2 languages-Done (4)
Climb the pyramids - Done
Scuba Dive South china sea, red sea, med - Done
Sail all 7 seas - Done
Surf the really big waves (4 times overhead) - Done
Start my own company - Done
Own a rolex (stupid, I know) - Done
Truely fall in Love - Done
Learn to fight well - Done
Play guitar- Done (reasonably)

The rest of the [unfinished] list:

Write (and complete and publish) a novel. (2 years)
Build a large (over 40′) Sailboat. (3 years)
Sail around the world (on above sailboat)(1-1/2 years)
Attain a higher dan (say 3rd) black belt. (3 years)
Golf under 80. (I’ll settle for maybe 84)- I came from 130’s down to 90 in 2 years, but it gets harder as you go - say (3 years)
Play Music and get paid for it. (another 3 years)
Learn to fly something other than ultra-lights. - (1 year)
At 46, I am realizing that I have nowhere near enough time to accomplish these latter goals. If I devoted all my time to these, I would be 60+ (But realistically we can’t do that - we have all the other ‘life’ that gets in the way)But just listing the former makes me realize how full my life has been. Without a big (and lofty) list, I never would have done what I did. Maybe I’ll live long enough to cross a few more off the list.

Diana,

There’s another item you can move from your “todo” list to your “todone” list. Publishing your blog has made a positive impact on my life. (My aching calves might disagree at the moment, however.)

Roger - that’s quite a list. Well done! And even for your age, I don’t think the rest of the list is impossible. Some of those things can be done in tandem.

Rog,

Wasn’t it you who told me, “I’m happiest when I’m becoming” (as in, working toward a specific goal)? I can’t recall exactly how you said it, but that was the idea. I’ve carried that with me, because I think it’s simple yet profound. On that note, it looks like you have enough to keep you happy the rest of your life. For me at least, it isn’t the finishing of something that is the most rewarding, but the climb to get there.

I think I could add “Hit a golf ball with reasonable power and accuracy” to my list. I have no pipe dreams about attaining any given score at this point. I’d settle for a full 18 holes without whiffing once, I think.

That’s one thing you and I never did. Perhaps we can make up the lack someday.

Dave,

Thank you for the compliment. I’m pleased. Now I want to make a positive impact on more people’s lives. Always moving the goal posts, that’s me. :)

Diana,

Like you said, it’s the climb to get there. I think you’ll have more opportunities to make a difference once you’re teaching. I could always tell when Dad had a student that “got it.” He’d talk about the kid for months or even yeats afterward.
