I realize that they’re digging with big equipment, but powerlines are an excellent example of why one should coordinate digging efforts. Especially if one considers that the person digging is probably not the only person digging… Imagine the individual damage that may have happened were that powerline hit with a hand-held shovel instead.
Besides, what would you do if the Army never screwed up? Things would get finished and work, and you’d be bored ;)
I am making the large assumption that you can’t do most of your work without the computers.
If this is the case, then why can’t you just work from home?
Sheesh, it’s good that Red Horse (the AF’s version of the Army Corps of Engineers) never does anything like that either! Ha ha.
In my 7 years at Charleston AFB, there was always some sort of construction/demolition/renovation going on, and power would sometimes get cut. Of course, the hard rains and thunderstorms would often take things out, too. Then there was always the squirrel that decided a transformer was a good place to commit suicide!
Yeah, like Jeff said, if you didn’t have the Army there, what would you do for entertainment?! :p
This reminds me of a story of an Air Force person trying to install a ceiling fan in their bedroom -ZOT. Bring back any memories
Jeff and Ric,
I’ve thought about that (what I’d talk about if the Army didn’t give me so much fodder), and I think I’d be forced to rave about how fertile the crescent here is, how breathtaking the scenery, how perfect the climate, and how I can’t figure out why cockroaches would fight over keeping this piece of turf, let alone creatures that have the means to leave. But then again, that about sums it up. Back to talking about Army stuff.
Scotty,
No LAN drops in the trailers, natch.
Barb,
If you’re talking about that AF person who almost set the house on fire because she didn’t take the “ensure main breaker is off” warning seriously…I don’t know what you’re talking about, of course.
d
What kind of idiot doesn’t turn the main breaker off when working with electricity?
To your brother, I always said ‘when all else fails, read the directions.” To you, I might add “Then follow them."I’ve spent the last week, along with about $200, repairing a minor leak under the house. I’m sure a plumber could have done it for $50, but look at all the exercise I would have missed, crawling around, digging, connecting everything up, only to discover it leaked worse than before. Besides, think of the /pride/ I now have in doing it myself, and I never had to ask anybody anything or get any permits or anything. And I didn’t have to bathe for a week.
Is this why Mount St. Helens is thinking about doing another eruption here? It’s been grumbling for days and may even make its own light!!
And now I’m stranded in Al Udeid. Again. You KNOW there will be a rant about this. Stay tuned.
d
What are you doing back in Qatar? I imagine it must be a little bit safer there.
Can’t wait to hear the upcoming rant.
