Diana,

Have you been in the Springs an entire year? Wow, where has the time gone?

Interesting observations on running in a hailstorm. I know motorcycling in one tends to give one similar encouragement to get home ASAP. That reminds me - did you ever finish your PFT?

I’m currently struggling to get past the prologue to Guns, Germs, and Steel. I should have known better than to try to read it at this time of year.

Wow. That rough, is it? I read it when I was in Balad, so my distractions were at a minimum. What’s so special about this time of year that makes your reading comprehension drop?

I did my PFT last month, actually. I made a 97.5% on it, which once again–sadly–falls just short of PFT Perfection. Not that there are any more perks for perfection than for the “excellent” I got. I just like knowing I aced it. It was my run time that dragged me down. I did my 1.5 miles in 13:01.

Ah well. I’ll ace next year for two reasons: I’ll be better acclimated, and I’ll cross another age threshold in the PFT charts which give me yet more time to finish my run.

Diana,

This time of year has a lot of family distractions - my daughter and I had a birthday a couple of days ago, my mother’s birthday was the previous week, my son regularly needs help with homework (lots of year-end projects), and the kids still haven’t figured out that even if Dad’s visible he might still be busy. Plus I spend a lot of time on the phone with my girlfriend.

What time do they expect on the PFT for a perfect score?

For my gender and age, at the altitude I ran this time: 12:24 or lower. I can’t remember exactly. If we run at the field house, we get 7 more seconds than if we run at the stadium, a 1/2 mile away.

Your daughter has your birthday? How cool is that? :)

Diana,

Yes, my oldest daughter was born on my 24th birthday. Technically that’s still my age, since she gets all the birthdays now. (Grin)

My other daughter pointed out that between the two of us, we total 70 years in age. We didn’t have that many candles on the cake though. (But we did have a firefighter in attendance - my son-in-law.)

I’m sorry, I’ve been remiss.

Happy birthday, old man. :D
