Well, wait, yeah, I am… Iowa’s close, but the UofM at least has a ranked football team and a top-notch medical school. Sure, neither of those matter to you, but surely being in a real metropolitan area counts for something.

I was joking about running for office. Above a certain level of government (and I think it starts just aboe dog catcher) you’d end up owing too many favors.

Gee, that’s actually a reason in favor of electing someone who’s dishonest - he’d be willing to bite the hand of the special interests that got him elected. Although it doesn’t usually work out that way.

Anyway, I’m glad you don’t have to move up your schedule, but for a purely selfish reason - it sounds like you won’t have quite so much time for blogging once you start school.

We just got the application package from the PhD applicant. This is a relief for me–no bones about it.

I still like the idea of pursuing integrity in some sense, as well (quite often, what seemed like a good idea one day won’t look like a good idea in the morning light). I’ll do some readings and think more on that subject.

No, I won’t run for office. I have too many issues with the requirements of “playing the game” and my personal integrity, among other things.

While I’m in school (not ’til summer ‘09!), I will still be eligible for RIFs, unless they decided current students won’t be considered. They make up the rules as they go along on these things, according to manning needs.

There you go making your own good luck again. (Grin) Well done! I know you’ll be able to meet the necessary deadlines - your ability to focus is, well, almost legendary.

I like your idea of writing about integrity. This country could certainly use a few lessons on it, in Washington and elsewhere. Have you considered running for office after you retire?

I’m curious about one thing, though. While you’re in school, are you still eligible for VSPs and/or RIFs? That could be a bloody nuisance. That’s about the only thing I’ve ever seen you write about that could be classed as a distraction. (You still seem to be able to perform, though.)
